As noted a week ago, Brian Feinblum wrote a blog post on 22 things book authors should do in 2022. I’m posting his recommendations along with my riff on his ideas. Here are two more of his ideas.
15. Develop a Book Marketing Plan.
And actually seek to execute it, as Brian wrote. Or, better yet, actually do it!
Seek out professional help, but expect to do a lot by yourself as well.

If you share your experience and advice with others, you will get help from others as well.
To develop your book marketing plan, follow the detailed but easy-to-follow guidelines established in 1001 Ways to Market Your Books.
16. Diversify Your Book Marketing Portfolio.
This means you’ll need to do a little, and maybe a lot, in one or more key areas: social media, advertising, traditional media, book reviews, paid reviews, speaking, direct marketing, networking, and other specialized areas.
While I wrote 1001 Ways to Market Your Books, I don’t recommend you do all 1001 ways. I generally recommend focusing on five or ten ways to market your book. What ways you focus on should be based on some of the following qualifications:
Your knowledge and experience
Your talents
Your connections or networks
How much money you have available for marketing
Your current social networks and apps
How much time you have available for marketing
At various times, you might spend more time on social media marketing. At other times, more time on writing for magazines, or doing a podcast, or making YouTube videos, or speaking at conferences, or pitching bookstores, or testing ads on Amazon or Facebook, or writing for Medium or Substack.
While you should focus on a few key ways to reach your market and sell to the people who need your book, every once in awhile you should try out another path to reaching those people. Or, as Brian wrote, diversify your book marketing portfolio.
