Here is a quote from Roger Ho, a top-rated concert photographer, talking about how he got one of the coolest jobs in the world:
It's so hard to get your foot in the door because it's one of the coolest jobs in the world. You have to have a thick skin and be ready for all of your emails to be ignored. — Roger Ho, concert photographer
Just a reminder: If you want to be successful as an author, you have to develop a thick skin and be ready for all your emails, phone calls, and letters to be ignored. At least, until you keep knocking.
Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hanson did five things a day for a 100 days before Chicken Soup for the Soul took off. That’s over 1,000 promotional activities during those first 100 days. And finally one thing produced results. And the rest is history (and over 800,000,000 books sold).
If you think doing five things will sell a ton of books for you, you are probably wrong. Ten things? That might produce some results, if they are the right ten things aimed at the right top influencers. 100 things? More likely to start producing results.
The important thing is to start taking action. Don’t wait for the world to come to you. Go out to the world. Reach out to top influencers. Reach out to important media. Reach out to bloggers, podcasters, potential affiliates, fellow authors, speakers, businesses, and more. Ask, and ask again.
